Text: Proverbs 7
My son, keep my words
and treasure up my commandments with you;
keep my commandments and live;
keep my teaching as the apple of your eye;
bind them on your fingers;
write them on the tablet of your heart.
(Proverbs 7:1-3 ESV)
In this passage the father is imploring his son to incorporate his commandments into his entire being. They are to be the apple of his eye, bound on his fingers and written into his heart. They are to be kept as the treasure that they are. So often when we are young we discount the teaching and commands of our parents. Then when we are older we wish that we had listened to them more carefully as their teaching would have saved us a lot of grief. Honor the teaching of your parents and you honor the Lord.
Heavenly Father, You provided us with parents who freely provided us all that we needed and gave us their wisdom to instruct us in the way of life. May we incorporate and use the wisdom that it may help us to avoid trouble and live righteously bringing honor and glory to your name.In Jesus name, amen.
