Text: Proverbs 3:29-32
Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly beside you.
Do not contend with a man for no reason, when he has done you no harm.
Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways, for the devious person is an abomination to the Lord, but the upright are in his confidence.
There is a great contrast between the man who stands upright and seeks to be righteous and the man who seeks to do evil. The man who does evil plots to do evil to his trusting neighbor and will contend with you for no reason even when you have done him no harm. The righteous man will not plot to do evil to his neighbor as he wishes to retain the trust and relationship that he has with him. He will not contend with you when you have done him no harm. Do not choose the ways of a man of violence for the Lord will not abide an evil man but has confidence in the righteous man. Do not seek to do evil, but rather seek to be righteous and to love your neighbor and the Lord will have confidence in you. He will expand your influence in your community and provide for all of your needs, and you will be able to lie down in peace and safety assured that the Lord will be with you all of your days.
Heavenly Father, You have confidence in the man who stands upright before you and despise the wicked man. May we seek to stand upright that you may have confidence in us and enhance our gifts that we might live in peace and security. May we avoid choosing the ways of a man of evil and violence that we might bring glory and honor to your name. In Jesus name, amen.
